RF Grid Testing & Grid Reporting

Grid testing for Emergency Responder Radio Coverage (ERCES) is law required by most AHJs and also covered in IFC 510, NFPA 1221 and by NFPA 72, to ensure adequate signal coverage throughout a building. This includes critical areas not typically prioritized for cellular coverage, such as stairwells, Fire Pump Rooms, Fire Command Rooms, electrical rooms exit pathways and stairs, standpipe cabinets and other areas required by the local AHJ. Not all new buildings require a public safety DAS. RF Grid Testing and RF Grid Reporting can determine if a building already has sufficient coverage to support ERCES requirements. Our thorough coverage evaluation and attention to design detail minimizes costly and unnecessary installations in both existing structures and new construction projects.

Industrial conducts on-site first responder RF Grid Testing and RF Grid Reporting that measures and maps in-building P25 public safety radio signal levels as required by NFPA 1221 and IFC 510 fire codes for Emergency Responder Radio Coverage (ERRC) inside newly constructed buildings, new additions and underground structures. These RF signal measurements are then processed by software and turned into detailed reports used to determine whether a building meets local coverage requirements and if a Public Safety Emergency Radio Responder Communications Enhancement System (ERRCES) is needed.

Grid Survey

If the building passes the coverage test, your survey report can be submitted to the local fire marshal or the authority that has jurisdiction to remain on file until your next required inspection.

If the building fails the coverage test, a distributed antenna system (DAS) will need to be installed to remediate the coverage issues. Industrial will help you through each step of the process to ensure your building meets the minimum safety requirements/codes to satisfy the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).

No matter what kind of structure you are building, engage Industrial Communications in the beginning phases of your construction conception cycle through the end of the cycle. We can even consult you on existing properties. As experts in the codes and standards, Industrial offers fire protection and life safety code strategy, confirmation of code compliance, and innovative solutions for complicated design and construction challenges.
